Passage: Joshua 1:7-9

"Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

The Story

Moses is dead.

That's the context behind these words. The man who led Israel out of Egypt, who stood before Pharaoh, who parted the sea — he's gone. And now Joshua is standing at the edge of the Jordan River, looking at a land full of fortified cities and people who have no intention of moving.

God doesn't open with comfort. He opens with a command: Be strong and very courageous.

Not once. Three times in nine verses. As if God knew that courage wasn't something Joshua would simply feel — it was something he would have to choose. Repeatedly. Even when the feeling wasn't there.

Joshua didn't cross the Jordan because he wasn't afraid. He crossed because he went anyway.

The Way Before You

You know this moment, don't you?

You're standing at the edge of something. Maybe it's a conversation you've been avoiding — with a child, a coworker, a neighbor — where the truth needs to be said and you're not sure how it will land. Maybe it's a decision about where to stand on something that matters, and standing will cost you something. Maybe it's simply the daily weight of trying to live rightly in a world that rewards compromise and punishes conviction.

The pressure to stay quiet is real. The path of least resistance is always well-worn and clearly marked.

But you didn't find your way here by accident. Something in you has been stirring. A sense that faith was meant to be more active than what you've been living. A recognition that the times demand something from you — something more than watching, more than worrying, more than scrolling past the wreckage and hoping someone else steps up.

God's word to Joshua is His word to you today: Be strong and courageous. Not because the road ahead is easy. Not because you won't feel afraid. But because He will be with you wherever you go.

That changes everything. A Guardian doesn't walk alone. You Carry the Cross into your corner of the world with the same God who parted the sea walking beside you.

This is The Way. Not a destination — a daily walk. Begin today.

Reflection

Where in your life are you standing at the edge of something, waiting for the fear to go away before you act?

Prayer

Lord, You commanded Joshua to be strong and courageous — not because the road was clear, but because You would be with him. Today I choose to step forward where I have been hesitating. Go before me. Steady my hands and my heart. Let me carry what You've placed inside me outward into the world with courage and love. Amen.

Walking in The Way — Today's Step

Today I will: Name one place in my life where I have been hesitating — and take one small, deliberate step forward.

I will watch for: A moment today where I have the choice to speak truth or stay silent. I will notice it. I will choose.
