Scripture

Romans 8:11

"And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you."

The Story

Paul does not say: the Spirit will one day live in you. He says: the Spirit is living in you.

The same power that pulled Jesus out of death on a Sunday morning is not stored somewhere waiting to be released at the end of history. It is present. It is active. It is resident in the body of every person who belongs to Christ. The resurrection was not a one-time deployment of divine power that has since gone dormant. It is the ongoing reality of a Spirit who raised the dead and has not stopped working.

This is the most audacious claim in the New Testament, and it is addressed to ordinary people living ordinary lives in the first-century Roman Empire. Not apostles. Not the spiritually elite. People with mortal bodies, real limitations, genuine fatigue — and the resurrection power of God living within them.

The Way Before You

Most people who have been formed by this truth still live as though the power is theoretical. They believe the doctrine. They affirm the resurrection. They have read this verse. And then they wake up on Tuesday morning and try to get through the day on their own energy — willpower, discipline, caffeine, determination. The Spirit who raised the dead is resident within them and they live as though he is not.

The formation question this verse asks is not: do you believe in the resurrection? It is: are you drawing from the power that the resurrection made available to you? There is a difference between affirming a past event and living from a present reality. The Spirit who raised Jesus is not a memory. He is here. He is in you. He is available to give life to the exact mortal body you woke up in this morning.

Draw from it.

Reflection

Are you living today as though the Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead is resident and active within you — or are you running the day on your own reserves?

Prayer

Lord, the same Spirit who raised Jesus is living in me. I believe that with my mind. Help me live it with my body — in the actual Tuesday in front of me, with its real demands and real limitations. I do not have to run on my own. The power that conquered death is available to me right now. Let me draw from it today. I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

Walking in The Way — Today's Step ⭐

Today I will: Identify one moment where I feel my own strength running low — and instead of pushing harder, draw from the Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead.

I will watch for: The moment I default to self-reliance — and let that be the signal to remember: the power that raised him is living in me.
