Scripture

2 Corinthians 5:17

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!"

The Story

Paul does not say: you are becoming a new creation. He says: the new creation has come.

The verb is past tense. The event is settled. The old self — the one that was performing, hiding, running, striving in the wrong direction — is gone. What is present now, in anyone who is in Christ, is something categorically new. Not a renovation. Not a restoration. A new creation.

This is the outward face of everything the week has been building toward. Sunday: the resurrection is a person, not a doctrine. Monday: Christ lives in you. Tuesday: the power that raised him is in you. Wednesday: your life is hidden with Christ in God. Today the question arrives: if all of that is true, what does the person who carries it actually look like in the world?

A new creation. Something the old categories cannot account for. Something the room did not expect when you walked in.

The Way Before You

The new creation is not a feeling. It is not a state you reach on good days and lose on bad ones. It is a declaration about what you are — settled, fixed, established in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

But it is also not passive. A new creation acts differently than an old one. It carries different instincts, different responses, different capacities. The person in Christ who understands what they are does not respond to the room the way the old self would have. They do not reach for the old mechanisms — the defensiveness, the performance, the self-protection. Those belonged to the old creation that is gone.

What is here now is something that has been raised with Christ, that carries resurrection power, that is hidden in God, that walks into the room as a new creation. Not as a project in progress. As the thing itself.

That is who you are today. Not who you are working toward. Who you are. Live from it.

Reflection

Are you living today as the new creation you already are — or are you still reaching for the old mechanisms that belong to a self that is already gone?

Prayer

Lord, you have made me a new creation. The old is gone. The new is here. Help me believe that about myself today — not as an aspiration but as a fact. I do not have to reach for the old mechanisms. I do not have to live as the person I used to be. You have made something new. Let me walk into this Thursday as that. I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

Walking in The Way — Today's Step ⭐

Today I will: Name one old mechanism I have been reaching for this week — defensiveness, performance, self-protection — and choose instead to respond as the new creation I already am.

I will watch for: The moment I start living as the old self — and let that be the signal to remember: the old has gone. The new is here. That is who I am right now.
