Ephesians 1:18-21
"I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come."
Paul does not pray that the Ephesians would receive more power. He prays that they would see the power they already have.
The distinction matters. The incomparably great power Paul describes is not something yet to be granted. It is already at work — for us who believe, he says. The prayer is for enlightenment, not addition. For eyes open enough to comprehend what has already been made available.
And then he names the scale of it. The power available to the believer is the same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead and seated him above every rule, authority, power, and dominion in the universe. Not similar power. Not power proportional to what was required. The same power. Operating at the same level. Available to ordinary people carrying ordinary lives into ordinary rooms.
The problem Paul is praying against is not a power shortage. It is a perception failure.
Most formed believers are operating far below their actual resource level. Not because the power is unavailable — because the eyes of the heart have not fully grasped what is there.
You walk into a difficult conversation resourced by resurrection power. You walk into a resistant room backed by the authority of the one seated above every other authority in the universe. You carry a living faith whose source raised the dead.
And yet the experience of Tuesday morning often feels like you are going in with very little. The meeting feels too hard. The relationship feels too broken. The resistance feels too entrenched. That gap — between what is actually available and what is actually felt — is exactly what Paul is praying to close.
Open the eyes of your heart today. Not to generate a feeling — to see what is actually there. The authority given on Sunday, the keys described on Monday, the incomparable power named today — it is all one reality. And it is available to you right now, in the actual Tuesday in front of you.
Are you walking into today's rooms with an accurate sense of what is actually available to you — or are you operating as though you are resourced at a much lower level than you are?
Lord, open the eyes of my heart. Not so I can feel more confident in myself — so I can see what you have actually made available. The power that raised Christ from the dead is at work in me right now. The authority seated above every other authority in the universe is the authority behind me. Help me walk into this Tuesday like someone who actually knows that. I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.
Today I will: Name the room or situation where I feel most under-resourced — and choose to walk into it with an accurate understanding of what is actually available to me.
I will watch for: The moment I feel overwhelmed by the scale of what is in front of me — and let that be the signal to remember: the power behind me is incomparably greater.
