Show Me

Scripture

James 2:18

"But someone will say, 'You have faith and I have works.' Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works."

The Story

James is responding to an objection. Someone has argued that faith and works are simply different gifts — some people believe, some people act, and both are valid expressions of the same thing. James does not accept the premise.

His answer is a direct challenge: show me your faith without works. Prove to me that it exists. Because the only evidence available for what a person actually believes is what that person actually does. Faith that leaves no mark on a life is indistinguishable from no faith at all.

This is not a harsh word. It is a clarifying one. James is not saying works earn salvation. He is saying that genuine faith, by its nature, produces something visible. The person who has been truly changed by knowing God will look different — not eventually, not theoretically, but in the actual choices of the actual day.

The Way Before You

The challenge James issues is worth sitting with this morning: if someone could only observe your life today — your choices, your words, how you treat people, where your time and attention go — what would they conclude you believe?

Not what you say you believe. What your life demonstrates. The gap between them is not a reason for guilt — it is an invitation to close it.

Faith is not an argument you make. It is a life you live. James says: show me. That challenge is not meant to condemn — it is meant to move you out of the mirror and into the day.

Reflection

If someone observed your life today without hearing a word you said about your faith — what would they conclude you believe?

Prayer

Lord, I want my life to be the evidence. Not a perfect life — just one where what I believe is visible in what I do. Show me the gap between what I say and what I live. And give me the courage to close some of it today, in the ordinary moments no one is tracking but you. I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

Walking in The Way — Today's Step ⭐

Today I will: Choose one specific action today that reflects what I say I believe — something small, concrete, and real.

I will watch for: The moment I reach for the right words instead of the right action — and let that be the signal to stop talking and start moving.
